"The attacking troops were at a disadvantage...poke their nose round corners
where sitting a few yards up the road was a bloody big Tiger... and BANG! You
had no chance." (Leslie Dinning, 1st Royal Tank Regiment)

Day 6 - August 10 - Bayeux - Battle of Normandy
Today, the group returned to Juno Beach.  We were scheduled to have a 'History on Wheels' presentation, a guided tour and some time to visit the museum.  After a brief ceremony and lunch at the Mesnil Party, the group visited the Abbaye d'Ardenne before returning back to the hotel later in the day.

Abbaye d'Ardenne
"As many as 156 Canadian prisoners of war are believed to have been executed by the 12th SS Panzer Division (the Hitler Youth) in the days and weeks following the D-Day landings. In scattered groups, in various pockets of the Normandy countryside, they were taken aside and shot.

A total of 20 Canadians were executed near Villons-les-Buissons in the Abbaye d'Ardenne, a massive collection of medieval buildings -- including an early Gothic church and several farm buildings -- encircled by walls and surrounded by grainfields."
(Veterans Affairs Canada)

In the evening we enjoyed a meal together at a local restuarant and literally ate buckets full of mussels - French-style!

18 "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it." (Gospel of Matthew)
